Won't read the plate
Hold the phone steady until the plate fills the frame. If you can't read it, Vector can't either — watch for poor light, shadows, or sunset glare, and wipe the lens clean.
No hail swaths on the map
Zoomed all the way out, a swath can be too small to see — zoom in. Check the opacity is at 100%; lighter settings make swaths too faint to notice.
Map or location seems stuck
Usually a dropped GPS signal. Turn location on, then close and reopen the app.
A check shows no vehicle
Make sure the state is set correctly; if Vector timed out, wait a moment and rerun. If you typed it, check the characters — 0 vs O, no transposed digits. Temp tags and some fleet or government plates won't return a result. If the vehicle looks wrong (says Jeep, but it's a truck), the owner may have moved a vanity plate from a previous vehicle — public records don't always show that, and now and then a plate just can't be found.
First check after a break runs slow
The lookup engine powers down when it sits idle. The first plate after a quiet stretch takes extra time while everything warms back up — it can even time out. Run it once more and it's back to full speed. That's normal, not a fault.
